Start with a Rectangle - 3 Days

Learn to design and sew a stylish garment without using a pattern. In this class, you'll make a vest by starting with a rectangle and shaping it to fit. Whether you choose to make a garment that's pieced and quilted or a single layer, you'll learn lots of construction techniques and wonderful finishing details. The vest is based on three rectangles completely finished around the edges, then seamed together at the shoulders and sides. The garment is uncomplicated and easy to sew - ideal for the novice garment maker - but there are options for finishes and details to appeal to the more experienced sewer as well. If you're a hand weaver, this is the perfect garment for your beautiful fabric. Underarm bust darts and optional tucks, pleats, or gathers at the waist establish the fit. If you prefer a relaxed, easy fit - you can do that, too. You'll learn to design skirts using the "rectangle" approach as well.
